Art of change
This is one of the listed gallery for my first essay. My essay question is :
How important is the medium or discipline in experiencing or reading an work of art?
How important is the medium or discipline in experiencing or reading an work of art?
Art of change is the first exhibition i chose to visit which is in
Hayward Gallery, it is the
exhibition to focus solely on contemporary installations and
extraordinary live art by some of China's most innovative artists ,in
works dating from the 1980s to present day.
Below is a work piece by Ying Mei Duan.
This is a photo i took after she invited me singing in front of other audience, tho i dun really understand the aim of her request, how does it related to the art performance which call ' Happy Yingmei' (2011/12), I like the atmosphere she create in the the small dark room, she make it transform as a rare forest with a secret and mystery fairy.
This is another work by a couple of artist Sun Yuan and Peng Yu . This is an art work called “Civilization Pillar”(2001), created by them, placed on a pedestal, a 4 meter-high semi-translucent column with an amber appearance which is made of greasy and sticky human fat. The artists have written that 'man could consume all the extra energies within the human ''pillar'', and there is no need to think about the meanings that lie behind doing that . Because the ''Magnificent Pillar'' itself is just the accumulation of human fat, therefore the existence of the pillar is totally meaningless.'
And behind the pillar, an piece of work called 'I Didn't Notice What I am Doing' as 'Fake Darwinism' (2012), an installation consists of two sculptures: a triceratops and a rhinoceros. The artists aim at misleading people conjecture that the two animals are related in a some way of evolutionary, based on the similarities of their appearance, however they actually belong to completely different species. The artist explain that the main crux of the project lies in its investigation into the manner in which relationships are constructed or how correlations are made. It raise questions as to how human being create connections between things and to grasp the world by placing things in relation to each other which is often without scientific foundation.
I do think this exhibition is quite helpful to my essay writing, it raise more ideas of what kind of role did the medium representing. But I will keep going some more exhibition before I make the decision of exhibition reference for my first essay.
